Kinetic Sand

Kinetic Sand Tables

Here at The Sandbox we have two sandtables. The first is filled with kinetic sand and allows the child to create with their imagination. The second is a 3D holographic sandtable which allows the child to experience a aariety of biomes from around the world whilel moving the sand around the table.

This life size exhibit challenges you to create with colored pegs on a 4’ high and widde pegboard which is lite from the behind.

Playing with light is fascinating for children. Here they can blend colors, build 3D structures and explore translucent items.

Light Sensory

Bubbles & Lights

From birth, a child's sensory development not only stimulates brain development but also encourages motor and language skills. Our Bubbles and Lights exhibit engages the child's visual and tactile sense. "The rhythmic movements of colorful bubbles in Bubble tubes induce relaxation and improve focus." Children can tap the floor tiles to make the color change and create patterns of light.

Shrimp Tales

Inspired by a real commercial shrimp boat, The Shrimp Tales allows for two levels of play, with a crawlspace underneath the upper deck. Learn the parts of a shrimp boats, the life cycle of the Atlantic White Shrimp, the history of commercial shrimping in South Carolina, and how shrimpers save the sea turtles with the T.E.D. Children can dress up in rain gear and boots and pretend to be a shrimper or learn the parts of the shrimp boat with flip cards.

Flight Deck

Young pilots fly the friendly skies in the international airport terminal with a plane complete with pilot, co-pilot seats. Pilot costumes fuel the imagination as children navigate their take-off and landing complete with sounds to add to their experience. They can maneuver the throttle of this real jet and listen to the directions from the flight town. Your pilots can view (3) different flight simulations on a three flat screens and maybe spark an interest in becoming an astronaut too.

Mail a letter or dress up as postman. The mail area sits next to the jet plane to meet your airmail needs. Stamp a package, address a postcard or write a letter and mail it to a friend!

Island Tire Garage

This exhibit area calls to the child who has a need for speed! Design and build a racecar and then test it by racing it down the track while clocking your fastest speed.

Build It!

Children can put on hard hats and construction worker vests to get right down to the business of building. In the “build it zone” young builders can use their imagination to build with Giant Lego Blocks, wooden blocks of all sizes, large cardboard blocks, and many other manipulatives. Build It invites the child to design and construct beyond their wildest imagination.

Outside Sandbox

Our patio is filled with additional exhibits. Your child can run through our pool noodle forest, use their imagination and problem solving skills to build with our big blue blocks, be creative at our chalk board and paint easels. Children can exercise their musical side at our music wall and use their senses in our sensory garden. Challenge your skill in our life size chess set. Our sensory path alllows them to hop skip and jump!

Beaches Vet Clinic

At the veterinary clinic your child can take care of their favorite animal as well as our local wildlife.

Island Grocery

The grocery and shopping experience exercises the child’s social skills while providing opportunities for language and communications skills, health and physical development, by identifying fruits and vegetables, and engaging in conversation with their caregiver.

Charlie's Petite E'Toile Verte Cafe

The Café experience exercises the imagination while providing opportunities for Math skills like sorting and making change, health with creating a balance meal, and social skills by providing opportunities for group interactive play. Children can create balanced meals and wait on customers as if working a real restaurant.

Bepaw and Mimi's Dolphin Cove

This area is specifically designed for infants and toddlers visiting The Sandbox Children’s Museum. The children can enjoy crawling and sliding on their own play gym built just for their size and maneuverability. There are age appropriate toys and books as well as soft feature to sit in.
